Huntington Gardens had previously been the massive estate of a very wealthy family. They built a large marble house, reminescent of the fancy homes in Newport, Rhode Island. These folks collected art - the original painting of The Blue Boy hangs in a gallery on the property. They left a bequest for the property to be maintained as a museum and botanical garden. There are a variety of gardens on the property, including a massive rose garden, a desert garden, and a large Japanese garden.
