I didn't get to take pictures from the cable car on our Sunday afternoon trips - they were always too crowded. When we finally got back on the cable car, we ran into some fans from the Minneapolis area who were, like us, doing some SF touristing before the ConJose. Back in the Union Sq. area for dinner, Jim wanted to eat at John's Grill, a near 100-year-old classic chop house where Dashiell Hammett used to hang out. It turned out the menu had a piece about Hammett written by Fritz Leiber. Eating at John's Grill was like going back 50 years in terms of the cuisine and atmosphere, but, fortunately, it being California, the non-smoking laws were very much in effect.
