Archive Site: Valhalla [Deceased]
This brewery closed, sadly, in about 2003. However, it was replaced by Eleven, an excellent, trendy restaurant by the Big Burrito people.
Valhalla was located at 1150 Smallman St., next to the John Heinz Historical Center. They feature several good German style beers and perhaps the best food of any of the brew pubs in the city, other than perhaps the Penn Brewery.
Their beers include:
- Big Olaf -- a dark Munich-style lager. It's very malty and probably their best beer.
- Eric the Red -- a copper-colored Vienna-style beer.
- Pillage Pilsner -- a Miller Genuine Draft style beer
- Odin's Offering -- the featured beer of the month. Lately, they have had two different wheat beers under this heading.
The food is quite good, though some of the offerings are a bit on the strange side.
They are open on Sundays, so they are a fine place to stop after 1pm or before 4pm or 8pm Steeler games.
